Measuring Blood Pressure: What do the Numbers Mean

Your blood pressure tells  you how hard your heart is working to pump blood. The top number (systolic) is the pressure when the heart contracts and pumps oxygenated blood to the organs, muscle and other parts of the body. The bottom number (diastolic) is the pressure when the heart relaxes and begins filling up with blood returning to the heart after oxygen has been extracted .

Why Should Blood Pressure be Maintained Within the Normal range?

People with high blood pressure have more heart attacks, kidney disease, strokes and even blindness.

What does a Top Number Higher than the  Normal Mean?

It means that your heart is working harder than a person with normal blood pressure, to pump  the same amount of  blood into the  blood .vessels that carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the body .
