Girls track notebook: Margaret O’Brien hoping to pick up the pace at state

O’Brien won the 3,200 meters on May 9 at the Class 2A Clark Sectional by a wide margin, as her time of 11 minutes, 37.90 seconds beat the field by almost 40 seconds. Fenwick freshman Katie Cahill (12:16.80) was the next-closest runner.

Ongoing.

‘I was not very happy,’ she said. ‘I thought I could’ve gone a lot faster, done much better. It was definitely not my best performance. So I’m hoping next week it will be much better.’

She couldn’t pin down the exact reason for the lackluster performance. She said it might have been nerves, or the fact that it was an after-school meet rather than on the weekend. The lack of competition didn’t help either.
